NXN - Dark Eagle Project

Sunday, October 15 2017

Hopefully this doesn't catch you off guard, but we want to be proactive in planning. Below is a message from Mr. Schommer about post season racing at Nike Cross Nationals in Terre Haute. This is a fun way for athletes to hang out and to officially end their season. There is no affiliation with the school (per IHSA rules), however athletes can form a team and race. All athletes are welcome to attend, but are responsible for their travel and entry. Also, Coach West and I would be willing to help get together a jersey order if athletes are interested in designing & purchasing their own jersey. This should be done ASAP though to allow the company time to make the jerseys.

From Mr. Schommer:

Dear Lakes XC Parents

Your runners may have come home talking about the Nike Cross Country National Race series.  Last year 5 Lakes runners participated in the Midwest Regional race held at LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course Terra Haute, IN.

This race is after the season so the coaches are not allowed to be involved.  We are organizing this as a club event.

It was a great experience last year so Tracey Dwyer, Ray Migas and myself are organizing a trip down again this year for the race on Sunday, November 12th

The entry fee before 10/31 is $35.  After it goes up to $45.  It’s sponsored by Nike so you get some cool swag.  You can find out more information at www.nxn.runnerspace.com

We plan to travel down on Saturday to arrive in time for the packet pickup.  Then we’ll grab dinner as a group and stay in hotels in Terra Haute.

I’m sending this email to the Varsity Teams but it’s open to anyone.  Paul Migas ran last year as a 5th grader and can’t wait to go back again this year.

The kids would like to get some team shirts so we’d like to know very soon.  Please let me know if your runner is a YES or NO.

Don’t hesitate to contact Tracy, Ray or me with any questions.

FYI – The name Dark Eagles was started last year since we were underdogs and thus it was a twist off of being a Dark Horse, but our mascot is the Eagle. Coach Shepherd had some special gear made up.

Sincerely,

Steven Schommer
