"Tuesday the Eagles hosted Grant and Antioch for a triangular which proved to be quite a competition on two fronts, the rainy weather and the competition. The Eagles could not get enough runners to keep up with AAA state-ranked Grant's second pack runners and lost 38 to 20. The actual time separation was much closer, so there is a lot of upside to this. The Eagles also fended off another strong showing by Antioch. Kortney Schardt led wire to wire, breaking the course record with her 17:51performance. Megan Knuettel (7th) was three seconds away from 4th place and Simone Lippman (8th) ran together and continued their improvement with their 19:34 and 19:40 PR (personal record) performances. Rae Dwyer (13th) also recorded a PR with her 20:30 as she ran with Alyssa Stromsland (14th), who tied her PR."
The race was ended early due to excessive rain, so some athletes from the teams did not finish.
Boys
In the first Prairie Division matchup of the year, Lakes came out
victorious with wins against both Grant and Antioch. Jeremy Wallace
ran a massive personal best en route to winning the race (16:26).
Jacob Hubbard was the other part of the Eagles 1-2 punch as he
finished close behind in 3rd.
Grant was winning the race at the 1.5 mile mark, but the smart racing
of Kuhlmann, Moran, & Meverden in the last half of the race pushed
Lakes to the victory, 25-32. Lakes also beat Antioch 20-38.
Easily the best race of the season for the team as every runner ran a
season best. Although the race was delayed due to rain and lightning,
many runners also finished with a lifetime personal best. Leading the
movement was the Freshmen class. Almost all of them significantly
improved, including five Freshmen moving into the top 20 all-time FR.
The list below represents where runners rank in Lakes history after
yesterday's races. The Eagles travel to Peoria this weekend to preview
the state course.
