Racine Horlick Wrap Up

Sunday, September 13 2015 - Racine Horlick Rebel Invitational

Girls

Saturday the Eagles cruised to solid performances across the board.
The JV squad set the tone with their 9th place performance in the 22 team field.

On the varsity side, the team finished 6th of 22 teams.
Kortney Schardt accelerated in the final 100 meters to out duel some very tough runners in the lead pack to win in 1453. Freshman Megan Knuettel was a medalist and 11th in 1558. Freshman Rae Dwyer missed a medal by seconds as she was 27th in 1636. Junior Alyssa Stromsland improved by 90 seconds to finish 48th in 1702. Freshman Hannah Grant was 69th in 1740. Sarah Sprague was 75th in 1750.

Boys

The boys team tackled the Footlocker Midwest Regional course today with tenacity and determination. The Frosh Boys got the day started off with phenomenal second place finish. Despite missing a top 5 runner, the Frosh Boys finished only two points behind first. Charlie Halberg lead the charge, earning a medal with an 8th place finish. Ethan Schommer, Max Borzick, and Owen Wenberg teamed with Halberg to form the best 4 man pack in the race. The trio finished in 14th, 15th, and 16th place respectively. Matthew Espinosa roared down the finish line to close the scoring with his best finish of the year. Colin McElduff and Ben Tanneberger were "pushers" for the successful Frosh contingent.

The Varsity Boys were also missing a significant contributor today, but rallied for a successful campaign. They finished 16th out of 23 competing teams, an improvement from last year. Jacob Hubbard was excited to come back to this course after a PR last year. He raced his way to a team best 17:20 5k, running only 15 seconds away from his #7 All-time Lakes History time from 2014. Hubbard wasn't the only one who improved as #2 Kael Moran lowered his season personal best by 10 more seconds. Robert Kuhlmann and Jeffrey Meverden paired up throughout the race, resulting in both runners finishing significantly faster than this time last year. Wil Blanchard was the final scorer for the Eagles, finishing within 10 seconds of his personal best. Matt Leyva and Jacob LeBaron were the other varsity top 7 members today. The JV Boys were led by Chris Wallenfang, Jorge Halek, and David Ongkiko. Many runners ran season bests; almost all were significantly faster than last year, as was the case with all levels today.
